Cite the Record is an independent service that publishes source-attributed, provenance-backed records from UK parliamentary and government sources. CTR is not UK Parliament, GOV.UK, legislation.gov.uk, or an official source publisher.

CTR processes public-role data about parliamentarians, peers, ministers, public officials, petition creators where published by the source, and people mentioned in official records. Data may include names, aliases, roles, memberships, parties, public parliamentary statements, votes, questions, committee activity, source identifiers, source URLs, and correction/annotation metadata.

CTR sources data from UK Parliament APIs and pages, Hansard, GOV.UK, legislation.gov.uk, petitions.parliament.uk, and other source systems listed on CTR's data-sources page. Each record includes source, URL, licence, and capture/access metadata.

CTR processes data to provide a citable public record, preserve provenance, make public parliamentary and government records searchable, connect records to normalized public-role identities, and operate correction, annotation, and legal-compliance workflows.

CTR's default ordinary-data basis is legitimate interests under Article 6(1)(f): democratic accountability, public record citation, provenance, and source verification. CTR publishes a summary LIA and offers objection handling. Alternative for counsel: public task/democratic engagement only if counsel confirms a clear and foreseeable legal basis beyond general civic purpose.

Some CTR records may reveal political opinions. For public-role data deliberately made public by a parliamentarian, CTR may rely on Article 9(2)(e), "manifestly made public by the data subject", where appropriate. CTR does not use this basis for private-life data, unverified derived labels, or data not deliberately made public by the subject without further review.

For specific publication, editorial, research, or archive functions, CTR may assess whether DPA Schedule 2 paragraph 26 or research/archive conditions apply. CTR will not treat these as blanket exemptions without a recorded assessment.

Data subjects may request access, rectification, erasure, restriction, or object to processing. CTR will correct CTR-controlled metadata where wrong, annotate official-source disputes, and assess erasure/objection requests case by case against lawful basis, public interest, freedom of expression/information, legal obligations, archiving/research safeguards, and legal claims.

CTR provides an electronic complaint route, acknowledges data-protection complaints within 30 days, investigates without undue delay, and informs the complainant of the outcome.
